I hope you realize that all my recent voting posts are your fault.
Just when you thought you were out, I pull you back in!
But every four years, we can expect this as there is a lot of pull by Catholics, even by bishops, to say, “Well, you missed your Sunday obligation? Try not to do that too often. You will miss your appointment with the Altar of Levers? Heaven forbid!” Even those of us few Catholics with two competing narratives in our heads (one of America as the land of Truth, Justice, and Equality, the other America as the land of Abortion, Usury, and two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner) find it hard to resist. Or as Mencius says, “Reversing this one point is not sufficient to replace your entire picture of American history. In fact, it’s entirely possible that, if you stop reading UR immediately, you’ll eventually relapse and become a Patriot again.”
Most Catholics do not even have this second narrative. Abortion? Well, that’s just a bug, not a feature. We’ll just fire the lead programmer, hire a guy who is still more or less in favor of the bug but promises a work-around in the next patch. So, at the risk of being overly dramatic, every four year I think we need to return to Plato’s cave and help people out.
In short, I think you have a gift and believe it or not occasionally change a few minds, so it is my duty to encourage you to put that gift on a lampstand. So I’m not sorry.
